Woman In Bloom: An exhibition of works in contribution to the discussion on the process of self-actualization for the woman in a typically patriarchal society.

“The power of the voice that lies in art should not be underestimated.”

Woman In Bloom is an art exhibition of works which clearly capture the power of the voice that lies in art.

This exhibition takes you on a journey, that shows art at it’s best, defying the norm and creates a space for women to be themselves, to shine to bloom and blossom regardless of the countless limitations society tries to impose and encourages women to be unapologetically who they decide to be.

The artists of this exhibition are not only women but mostly self-taught artists and they’ve all taken amazing approaches to interpreting the theme, “Woman In Bloom” and expressing it as uniquely as it means to them on their own journey.

The artists have truly showed what diversity, yet unity in art means. Each of them has uniquely and creatively brought the words, Woman In Bloom to life with their art.

The walls of Kongi’s Harvest, the art gallery, were gracefully lined with the works of Yadichinma Ukoha-Kalu, Laju Omagbitse, Eloghosa Osunde and Juachi Obi. The beauty in the art just overwhelms you and points out the fact that, art is a viable tool for addressing sociopolitical issues as well.

This exhibition runs till the 9th of October, 2015 from 12noon to 7pm daily at Freedom Park, Old Prison Ground, Broad Street, Lagos Island, Lagos.
