Ancient Opobo Kingdom in Present day Rivers state use to be one of Africa’s oil producing areas in the early century ( Colonial Area). It was a hot spot for the British,a rich area,so rich in oil that then then King of Opobo, Jaja the Great use to trade oil from Opobo to Liverpool directly without any middlemen . And as you know,more trade meant more protection and fire arms. Thats why till today in the ancient town,you can see canon guns everywhere in almost every compound. Its been years after the Colonial Masters left the shores of Nigeria and of Opobo town,but i tell you,you can still see memories of that era flying around the kingdom.
