Artists from around the world will honour Pulitzer Prize winning writer, activist, and poet Wole Soyinka’s 80th birthday with a series of cultural events. Peter Rorvik, Secretary General of the Arterial Network, has announced a spoken word and poetry tribute to “Soyinka whose work encompasses the values of peace and justice,” proudly sponsored by ArtWatch Africa via The Open Door Series [producers of the WS80/ICE].
Efe Paul Azino of Unchained Voices, in partnership with Freedom Hall and Taruwa, will be coordinating the Spoken Words segment that has renowned poets Mutabaruka (Jamaica), Javon Johnson (United States), Sage Hasson, Efe Paul Azino, AJ Dagga Tolar, Titilope Sonuga, Tope Sadiq, Jumoke Verrissimo, and Donna Wanawana on the list. Staged performances of the plays Dance of the Forest and Obakoso by Duro-Ladipo will also be staged in Celebration of the Icon.
Performances will take place at Terra Culture on Victoria Island -Lagos; on July 12th at the University of Lagos; and, on July 13th & 14th at the Cultural Centre, Kuto Abeokuta.
