“Father of Modern Cinema”Sir Hubert Ogunde came alive during the just concluded Lagos Black Heritage Festival 2015.

On display at the Kongi Harvest Exhibition room at Freedom Park Lagos, was the late actor’s Memorabilia and personal artifacts which drew lots of people eager to learn more about the legend of the Nigerian cinema. Sir Ogunde’s works as an actor, producer, playwright, stage director, theatre manager and musician earned him the title “Father of Nigerian Theatre”.

Hubert Adedeji Ogunde was a core traditionalist and a cultural advocate of the Yoruba race which he expressed through the “Ogunde Theater party” (The first professional theatrical company in Nigeria) in 1945. His style of film and theater production and direction created a foundation for the Nigerian theatre and film industry.
