The black round form represent the Great Benin wall and moat that protected Great Benin against invasion for over 800 years,the Gong or Egogo was used in ancient times when information was been passed to the people e.g new laws of the land and while the top you find the sculpture of Idia N’iye Esigie(Queen mother Idia-the mother of Emperor Esigie who is till the date the only woman in Great Benin to have led a battalion of Edo warriors to war against the Igalas in the 1600s. #BENIN #EdoKingdom #BeninWalls #Gong #Idia
