The Ibadan Book Conference 2016 took off on a glorious note after some of the eminent and distinguished fathers of Nigeria letters and literature,former Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan and Emeritus Professor of University of Ibadan,Professor.Ayo Banjo;the Distinguished Professor of Theatre,Professor.Femi Osofisan;Eminent Poet and Professor of English Niyi Osundare;Veteran film maker and three time Commissioner in the Oyo State Cabinet,Alhaji Arulogun;and world renowned publishers,writers,book sellers,dealers and consumers gather in Ibadan for the Book Conference.
The theme of the conference “The Book,The People and the Challenges of Growth” The essence of the conference is to salvage what is left of the book reading culture in the country,forge new thought patterns and ideas on how to improve on the dying reading culture.
During the conference there were many ideas and initiative on how to improve the growth and development of the Nigeria reading culture. Publishers and consumers were also on ground to speak out challenges and blockages affecting the publishing sector.
A first of its kind,the Ibadan Book Conference berths a new era of literary development,re-branding and protection of the literary world. The Conference was organized by Literary Stakeholders and the Ibadan Book Society
We will be looking forward to more salient initiatives and campaign from the organizers of the conference as a follow up to solutions that were draw up from the conference.
The conference serves as prelude to the Ibadan Book Festival heralding the Femi Osofisan@70 conference, June 13-17.
